Description

Feed vegetables, houseplants, roses, and trees from one bottle.
A gentle 5-1-1 fish emulsion that won't burn when used as directed.

Alaska Fish Fertilizer 5-1-1 is a liquid fish emulsion you dilute with water to feed almost anything you grow, from seedlings and houseplants to vegetables, roses, shrubs, and trees. It is a low-analysis organic feed, so it nourishes plants and the soil life around their roots without the heavy salt load that scorches tender growth. One bottle, every plant, all season.

Synthetic all-purpose liquid feed vs. Alaska Fish Fertilizer 5-1-1
Synthetic Liquid Feed
  • Heavy salt load scorches roots if you over-pour
  • Feeds the plant, ignores the soil life
  • Nutrients flush through fast, then they are gone
  • Petroleum-derived, not allowed in organic gardens
  • Sharp chemical smell in a closed room
  • Easy to shock a seedling with the wrong dose
Alaska Fish Fertilizer 5-1-1
  • Low salt load, will not burn at label rates
  • Adds organic matter that feeds soil microbes too
  • Quick-release and slow-release nitrogen together
  • Fish-derived and OMRI Listed for organic gardens
  • Deodorized, mild enough to use indoors
  • Gentle on seedlings, transplants, and houseplants

Why a low-analysis 5-1-1 will not burn, and why one feeding lasts

Fertilizer burn happens when soluble salts around the roots pull water back out of the plant. Concentrated synthetic feeds carry a high salt load, so a heavy hand browns leaf tips and shocks tender seedlings. A 5-1-1 fish emulsion carries a small fraction of that salt, which is why the label rates leave a wide safety margin and why growers reach for it on young plants.

The nitrogen arrives in two forms. Most of it is water-soluble and available to the plant within days for a quick green-up, while a smaller slow-release fraction breaks down over the following weeks as soil microbes work on the fish-derived organic matter. That mix is why a single feeding holds for about three weeks instead of washing straight through the pot.

One organic feed that covers the whole grow

One nitrogen-forward feed for the whole grow Indoor and outdoor

The 5-1-1 ratio leans on nitrogen, the nutrient plants burn through fastest building stems and leaves, which is what makes it a sensible everyday feed rather than a single-purpose booster. You cover seed-starting through mature plants by changing the dose, not the bottle.

Deodorized with natural wintergreen

Raw fish emulsion is famous for the smell. Alaska deodorizes theirs with wintergreen, so it is mild enough to feed houseplants in a room you actually sit in.

Feeds the soil, not just the plant

Because it is real organic matter, it feeds the bacteria and fungi living around the roots. That biology is what converts nutrients into forms a plant can actually take up, so healthier soil life means more out of every feeding.

A concentrate that stretches a long way Gallon makes up to 128 gal

At the vegetable-garden rate, a single gallon mixes up to 128 gallons of feed, and even the quart handles a full season of houseplants. A little goes a long way at every dilution on the chart.

Gentle enough to start seedlings

Tender seedlings and fresh transplants are the first thing a strong synthetic feed will scorch. At the light end of the label rates, the low analysis gives young plants a mild nitrogen boost that thickens stems without shocking new roots.

Watering-can simple, no injector needed

No dosing pump or injector required. Shake the bottle, measure into a watering can, and pour. That simplicity is why it is a go-to for hand-watered beds and grow-tent hand-feeds alike.

How to mix and feed with Alaska Fish Fertilizer 5-1-1

1

Shake the bottle

Fish emulsion settles, so shake well before every pour to get an even mix. Only dilute what you plan to use that day.

2

Measure into your water

Match the concentrate to what you are feeding using the rate chart below. Indoor plants dose by the quart, outdoor beds and trees dose by the gallon.

3

Pour at the base

Water it in around the root zone until the soil is evenly moist, then water normally between feeds.

4

Feed again every three weeks

During the growing season, repeat on that three-week rhythm. That steady cadence is all most plants need.

In the bottle, and how to mix it
What you are getting
  • Organic fish emulsion concentrate, 5-1-1
  • Dilutes with water, so a little makes a lot
  • One feed for edibles, flowers, roses, shrubs, trees, and containers
  • Works indoors and out, all season long
  • Choice of quart or gallon size
Mixing and rate guide
  • Indoor, per quart of water
  • Flowering houseplants: 1 tsp
  • Large houseplants: 2 tsp
  • Outdoor, per gallon of water
  • Vegetables, bedding, bulbs, annuals: 2 tbsp per 25 sq ft
  • Perennials, roses, vines, berries: 3 tbsp per 25 sq ft
  • Root vegetables: 1 tbsp per 25 sq ft
  • Outdoor containers: 1 tbsp per cu ft of soil
  • Trees: 4 tbsp per 25 sq ft
  • Shrubs: 3 tbsp per 2 ft of plant height
Which size? The quart is the easy pick for houseplants and small gardens. The gallon makes up to 128 gallons of feed at the vegetable rate, roughly 3,200 sq ft per feeding, and is the better value for a full garden. Not sure? Call 716-217-0353.
Frequently asked questions
The low 5-1-1 analysis leaves a much wider safety margin than a concentrated synthetic feed, so a small overpour is forgiving rather than fatal. That said, more is not better. Too much nitrogen still pushes soft leafy growth and can build up in the soil, so stick close to the label rates in the mixing guide.
It is deodorized with wintergreen, so it is mild compared to raw fish emulsion, but it is still a natural fish product. Expect a faint scent while you mix and water that clears within a few hours. If you are sensitive, crack a window or run the tent fan while you feed.
No. The label rhythm is every three weeks during the growing season, with plain water in between. Feeding every watering wastes product and pushes excess nitrogen into the soil faster than the plant can use it. Let the three-week cadence do the work.
Yes. Strain the diluted mix first so it does not clog your sprayer, then apply in early morning or evening and avoid spraying in midday sun. Foliar feeding is a nice supplement, but a soil drench at the root zone is still the main way to use it.
This is a soil and soilless-media feed, so use it in potting mix, coco, or peat, not in a recirculating hydro system. In a reservoir the organic matter clogs lines, fouls the water, and feeds the wrong microbes. For DWC or drip hydro, run a clean mineral nutrient instead. If you grow both ways, call us and we will point you to the right product for each.
Get the quart if you are feeding houseplants or a small garden, and the gallon if you run a full outdoor garden or a grow tent you feed all season, since it costs less per ounce. Sealed and kept in a cool, dry spot, it stores well from one season to the next. Just shake it before use.
