    Description

One cracked pot should not cost you a whole module

AutoPot sells these pots on their own, in the three plastic capacities its modules are built around plus four fabric sizes for the larger systems. What matters is matching the pot to the tray you already own, because a 2.2 gallon pot and a 6.6 gallon pot sit in completely different trays. Every size here is the pot AutoPot ships inside its own systems, so a replacement drops straight back in.

A garden centre pot vs the pot the system expects

What you get for buying the matched part instead of a lookalike

A generic nursery pot of about the right size An AutoPot pot matched to your tray
The base and footprint are whatever the moulder chose, so whether it seats in your tray is something you find out after it arrives. AutoPot names the systems and trays each capacity drops into, so the fit is a published fact rather than a measurement you take.
Capacity is nominal and varies between manufacturers, so two 4 gallon pots can hold noticeably different volumes of substrate. Published in both gallons and litres, because AutoPot specifies its systems in litres and sells them in the US in gallons.
Nothing is designed to stop roots leaving the pot, so they colonise the tray and you discover it when you strip the system down. Every module has a published position for a root control disc or a PotSock, so root escape is something the design accounts for.
Nothing tells you whether the plant you are about to transplant is big enough to cope with the pot. AutoPot publishes a minimum plant height for each module, so you know when a plant is ready rather than guessing.
Fill it with whatever bagged compost is open and hope it drains well enough to stay aerobic. AutoPot publishes the mix these pots are built around: roughly half perlite or clay pebbles with soil or coco, over a drainage base no deeper than 1 inch.
When the next one splits you match it by eye and hope the replacement sits the same way. Every size and colour carries an AutoPot part code, so the next one you order is the same pot and not an approximation of it.

    Before you order

Six things worth knowing before you pick a size

    3 plastic sizes4 fabric sizes

Each capacity belongs to a module

AutoPot builds easy2grow around the 2.2 gallon pot, the 1Pot around the 3.9 and the XL around the 6.6. Order the capacity your tray was designed for and it seats the way the system expects.

    2.2 and 3.9 swap

Two of the sizes are interchangeable

AutoPot states that the 3.9 gallon 1Pot pots and the 2.2 gallon easy2grow pots can be used in either tray. That is the one swap the manufacturer actually sanctions.

    5°F to 8°F cooler

White is a heat decision, not a looks one

AutoPot publishes the white pot as holding substrate 5°F to 8°F cooler than black, and describes it as reflecting extremes of heat away from the root system.

    Gas exchange

The fabric pots are porous on purpose

AutoPot gives the reason plainly: the porous fabric improves gas exchange in the substrate. That is the trade you are making against the plastic pot, not a styling choice.

    Sold separately

Fabric pots need a PotSock fitted

AutoPot calls a PotSock essential on the base of every GeoPot, and a PotSock XXL on every 13 gallon pot. Neither comes with a pot bought on its own.

    Pot only

This is the pot, not the system

No tray, no AQUAvalve, no reservoir and no tubing. If you do not already own an AutoPot system, a pot on its own will not water anything.

Fabric pot fit3 gal and 5 gal in GeoPot systems, 9 gal in XXL and Auto5, 13 gal in XXL only

Two things are deliberately missing above. AutoPot does not publish the physical dimensions of its pots: the figures in the specification table on its own product pages are packaging sizes, which is why a folded 13 gallon fabric pot is listed at 12 by 12 by 3 inches and a 2.2 gallon plastic pot at 12 by 12 by 12. The printed weights have the same problem. The company brochure prints millimetre figures without stating which measurement belongs to which axis, so rather than guess we have left both out. The litre equivalent for the 3 gallon fabric pot is also unpublished. Everything above comes from the AutoPot Growers Guide and the 2026 AutoPot brochure, both on AutoPot's own sites. If you need a pot measured before you order, call 716-217-0353 and we will put a tape on one in Buffalo.

    How it works

Four steps from a new pot to a running module

    1

    Start with an established plant

AutoPot is explicit that you pot up established plants and not small seedlings. A seedling cannot drink what the tray offers it and will sit in wet substrate.

    2

Water it through outside the tray

Pot up away from the system, then water until it runs out of the base and let it drain for 15 minutes before it goes anywhere near the tray.

    3

Clean the base and sides, then set it down

Wipe the bottom and sides of each pot so loose substrate does not wash into the tray, place it in position, and leave the system switched off.

    4

Let it root before you turn the water on

AutoPot asks for 5 to 7 days in easy2grow, 7 to 12 days in 1Pot and 10 to 14 days in XL and FlexiPot. Switch the system on once the plants have rooted.

    Which pot your system takes
What you already own The pot to order
easy2grow system 2.2 gal standard, and the 3.9 gal also fits the same tray
1Pot system or 1Pot module 3.9 gal standard, and the 2.2 gal also fits the same tray
1Pot XL, Auto3 XL or Auto9 XL 6.6 gal plastic, or the 5 gal fabric pot instead
Auto8 tray system 2.2 gal or 3.9 gal, whichever the tray was set up with
XXL system or Auto5 9 gal fabric in either, and 13 gal fabric in the XXL only
GeoPot system 3 gal or 5 gal fabric, whichever size you started with
Buying tip: from what we ship, pots crack at the rim rather than the base, and almost always while someone is lifting a wet pot out of a tray mid run. If you are ordering one replacement it is worth ordering two, because the second one costs a few dollars now and saves a week of waiting later. You will also need root control: a PotSock for fabric pots, or a root control sheet for plastic. If the tray cracked too, the replacement trays are sold the same way.
    FAQ

What growers ask before replacing a pot

AutoPot publishes compatibility for its own pots and says nothing about anyone else's, so there is no honest answer we can give you about a specific third party pot. What we can tell you is what goes wrong when it does not fit: the pot sits proud of the tray base, the substrate never makes proper contact with the water, and the plant stays dry while the tray stays full. If you want to try one anyway, test a single position before you commit the whole system to it.

It depends on the module, and AutoPot is specific about it. In a 1Pot the disc goes in the tray, gold face up. In easy2grow you use a disc in the pot plus a PotSock on the pot base, both gold face up. In a 1Pot XL the disc goes in the pot, gold face down. With an XL FlexiPot you use a PotSock on the pot base, gold face up. Getting the orientation wrong is the usual reason roots still escape.

AutoPot asks for a drainage base of pH stable clay pebbles, pea gravel, Growstones or Perlite No.3, at 1 inch maximum depth, then substrate filled to between 2.5 and 5 cm below the rim. One warning worth repeating: peat based composts compress over a run and need mixing with perlite, clay pebbles or gravel before they go in, or the pot turns into a sealed block partway through.

AutoPot does not publish them, and we are not going to invent them. The numbers in the specification tables on AutoPot's own product pages are packaging sizes rather than pot sizes, which is obvious once you notice a 13 gallon fabric pot listed at 3 inches tall. The brochure prints millimetre figures but never says which one is the height. If a dimension is the thing standing between you and ordering, call 716-217-0353 and we will measure one off the shelf for you.

Yes, and AutoPot publishes a separate configuration for it. For aggressive plants in any system, put the root control disc in the pot with the gold face down and add a PotSock on the pot base with the gold face up. That is belt and braces rather than one or the other, and it is the setup worth starting with if you have had roots in the tray before.

Only within what the tray accepts, and the tray is the limit rather than the pot. The 2.2 and 3.9 gallon pots swap freely because they share a tray. Going from 3.9 to 6.6 gallons does not work that way: the 6.6 belongs to the XL trays, so it is a different module rather than a bigger pot. While you are in there, AutoPot specifies the reservoir at least 6 inches above the highest AQUAvalve, water between 64°F and 70°F, and pH 5.8 in soil or 5.5 to 5.6 in coco.
