This is the exact same full-size Tray2Grow (43.9" x 16.1", 3.7 sq ft of growing area) with the same AQUAvalve5 gravity-fed valve, just without the reservoir, seed trays, capillary spikes, and microgreen accessories that come with the Standard Kit. If you already own a reservoir or want to buy one separately, the Slim gives you the core system for under $100. Place fabric pots, perforated pots, or seed trays on the capillary mat and let it bottom-feed each container exactly what it needs. No pumps, no timers, no electricity.

    The valve opens when the tray dries out and closes when it refills. Your plants control the cycle, not a timer. No electricity, no pump, no programming.

    Capillary mat + root control sheet

    The mat wicks water up from the tray into each pot evenly. The root control sheet sits on top to prevent roots from growing down into the mat and clogging it.

    Any container with drainage holes or permeable walls works on this tray. Fabric pots, air pots, standard nursery pots, 1020 seed trays, and AutoPot microgreen trays all fit.

    How the Tray2Grow Slim works

    1

    Level the tray and connect your reservoir

    Place the tray on a flat surface and use the three embedded spirit levels to verify it's even. Run the included 3/8" pipe from your reservoir (sold separately) to the tray's inlet grommet.

    Lay the capillary mat and root control sheet

    Place the capillary sheet flat in the tray, then lay the root control sheet on top. The mat wicks water up, and the root sheet prevents roots from growing into it.

    Set your pots on the tray

    Place any pots with drainage holes directly on the root control sheet. Fabric pots, air pots, nursery pots, and seed trays all work. The system handles up to the full 3.7 sq ft of tray space.

    Fill the reservoir and walk away

    The AQUAvalve5 fills the tray when it dries and stops when water reaches the valve's shutoff point. Refill your reservoir as needed. That's the only maintenance.

    Frequently asked questions
    Same tray, same AQUAvalve5, same capillary mat and root control sheet. The Standard Kit adds a FlexiTank reservoir with filter, capillary spikes for grow bags, seed trays, and copper slug tape. The Slim Kit is just the tray and the plumbing to connect it to a reservoir you already own.
    Any gravity-fed reservoir works as long as it sits above the tray and connects via 3/8" tubing. The FlexiTank is purpose-built for AutoPot systems and includes the right filter, but a hard-sided tank or even a bucket with a bulkhead fitting and inline filter will work. The key requirement is that the reservoir must be higher than the tray so gravity can push water to the AQUAvalve.
    It needs to be level enough that all three spirit levels read centered. If the tray is uneven, the AQUAvalve5 won't shut off correctly and you'll get pooling on one side and dry spots on the other. Shims under the tray legs or a flat board underneath usually fix this in a few minutes.
    The usable area is about 43.9" x 16.1", so you can fit several 1-gallon pots, a few 3-gallon pots, or two 5-gallon fabric pots side by side. For seedlings, four standard 1020 seed trays fit on the capillary mat. The only constraint is physical tray space and that all containers must have drainage holes or permeable walls so the capillary action works.
    You can run nutrients. Mix your nutrient solution in the reservoir and the AQUAvalve will deliver it the same as plain water. Keep your solution mild and stir the reservoir periodically to prevent settling. Growers run everything from mineral salts to organic teas through these systems successfully.
    Yes. The system is modular. Use a tee connector (not included with the Slim, but available separately) to split the line from one reservoir to multiple trays. Each tray has its own AQUAvalve5, so they operate independently even on a shared reservoir. Just size your tank to match total demand.

    Check the order confirmation sent to your email or phone after checkout — it includes a tracking link. If you use the Shop App, you can track your order there too.
    Most orders arrive in 3-5 business days. Expedited options (2-day, overnight) are available at checkout if you need it sooner.
    Signature is only required on orders over $500. For added privacy, we can ship to your local UPS Store so you pick it up on your own schedule — just ask.
    We default to UPS Ground or USPS Ground Advantage. Select an expedited option at checkout and we'll use the appropriate carrier for that service.
    • P.O. boxes: Yes, for small and lightweight items.
    • International: Canada only. Email help@happyhydro.com your address and a screenshot of your cart for a shipping quote.
    • APO/FPO: Not currently available.
    For Canadian orders, import duties and taxes are the buyer's responsibility. You'll complete payment using your tracking number at UPS.com when your package arrives.

    Refunds are processed through Shopify within 10 business days. Most customers see the credit back in about 5 days.
