Root 128 cuttings at once with nothing but water, air and mist

Cuttings sit in collars with their stems hanging in open air while a manifold of 360 degree misters runs underneath them, so roots form without rooting cubes, a humidity dome or a heat mat. The pump runs for the whole round and the only consumable is what you put in the water. Everything that touches that water is UV protected HDPE, made in the USA.

What changes when there is no medium in the way

Every round costs another tray of cubes or plugs, thrown out at the end of it.	The collars are the only thing holding the stem, and they wash and go back in next round.
Roots grow inside a cube, so you find out whether they took by lifting it and looking underneath.	Roots hang in open air where you can see every one of them through the round without touching a cutting.
The dome has to be vented by hand and the mat has to be watched, or the tray swings between soaking and dry.	There is no dome and no mat. The pump mists on its own and the water level is the only thing to check.
One wet tray that stays wet breeds rot, and it spreads through the shared medium to the cuttings beside it.	Each stem sits in its own collar in moving, oxygenated water with no shared medium between sites.
Labelling means writing on tape or stabbing markers into cubes that get shuffled when trays are moved.	The site positions are molded into the lid as letters and numbers, so a cutting's address does not move.
Cleaning up means bagging spent medium and scrubbing trays before the next batch.	Bleach water runs through the system, the misters soak, and it is ready for the next cut.

One round, one machine

A hundred and twenty eight cuttings go in on the same day and come out on the same schedule, which is what makes a batch plan work. If your usual cut is well under a hundred, the 64 is the honest answer.

The lid sits just over eleven inches off the bench, so a shop light or a shelf above it still clears the cuttings. Height is what the Low Pro line gives up compared to the taller EZ-CLONE cabinets.

How it works

Four steps from a filled reservoir to rooted cuttings

Fill to the misters, not over them

EZ-CLONE says to fill until the water is just touching the very bottom of the misters without covering them. Add Clear Rez at one ounce per five gallons, which on a full 128 reservoir is about four ounces a week.

Collar each cutting and seat it

Cut at a node, dip in rooting compound, then push the stem through a collar so the cut end hangs below the lid. Drop the collar into its site and note the letter and number for that strain.

Run the pump and leave the pH alone

Set the water near 5.2 and expect it to climb to somewhere between 5.8 and 6.3, which EZ-CLONE calls an acceptable range for quality results. The company reports successful cloning at water temperatures as high as 85 F when Clear Rez is in the reservoir.

Pull them as the roots fill in

Fast growers like tomato and mint can show roots in as little as three days and be ready to move in five to seven. For most garden plants expect a good root mass at around two weeks, and pot each cutting up as it gets there rather than waiting for the slowest one.

Buying tip: the gap between the 64 and the 128 is $92.65, which works out to roughly $1.45 a site either way. Size to the largest cut you actually take in a day, because a half loaded 128 runs the same pump and uses the same reservoir as a full one.

FAQ

Questions growers ask before buying an aeroponic cloner

Is 128 sites too many for a home grow?

For most home growers, yes. The 128 earns its keep when you cut mothers on a schedule and need a full batch to come ready together, which usually means a perpetual room or a nursery selling clones. If you take twenty or thirty cuttings at a time, the 64 site is the same machine in a size you will actually fill. Running a big cloner half empty costs you the same water and power as running it full.

Do I still need a dome, cubes or a heat mat?

No to all three. The collar holds the stem and the mist does what a dome would do, which is keep the cut end from drying out. There is no cube because there is no medium, and the pump moving water through the reservoir is what keeps the root zone from sitting cold and stagnant. What you do still need is light. Cuttings are not rooted yet but the leaves are still working, so give them something gentle overhead.

How do I clean it between rounds?

EZ-CLONE's own instruction is to run bleach water through the whole system to sterilize it, and for the 128 the stated amount is four cups. Then empty the reservoir, wipe it down, run fresh water through for twenty minutes and hand rinse. Clean and inspect the collars while that is going, and soak the misters for twenty minutes so nothing is left blocking them. Doing this after every cycle is the difference between a cloner that keeps working and one that starts dropping cuttings.

How long until I see roots?

It depends far more on what you cut than on the machine. Easy herbs like mint and tomato can show roots in about three days and be ready to move inside a week. Most garden plants take closer to two weeks to build a root mass worth transplanting, and woody cuttings take longer still. Your own mother plant health and the condition of the cutting move this number more than anything you can adjust on the cloner.

What space do I need to leave around it?

More than the footprint. The lid lifts off in one piece and it is nearly four feet long, so leave yourself somewhere to set it down while you work. You also want to reach the middle sites from one side, which on a 25 inch deep unit means not pushing it tight against a wall. A standard kitchen counter depth is comfortable. A narrow shelf is not.

Will mine be the black one or the white one?

EZ-CLONE molds the Low Pro line in both black and white, and the two are identical apart from the color of the plastic. We stock one at a time rather than both, so if the color matters for your room, call us at 716-217-0353 before you order and we will tell you what is physically on the shelf that day.

What if my order shows up damaged, or I change my mind?
