Fit two living soil beds in a 2x4 tent with room to spare

The Grassroots Hobby bed measures 19" x 19" x 18" and holds about 28 gallons of soil (3.7 cubic feet). Two of these fit side by side in a standard 2x4 grow tent with enough clearance for drain trays and airflow on all sides. This is the only Grassroots bed size that ships as a complete package with all PVC components included, so there's nothing else to source.

Complete Package PVC Included

Unlike the larger Grassroots beds that ship fabric and fittings only, the Hobby bed includes all PVC pipes pre-cut and ready to assemble. Nothing extra to buy or cut.

Sized for 2x4 Tents

At 19" x 19", two beds fit side by side in a standard 2x4 tent (typically 24" x 48" interior). Each bed supports one plant with 28 gallons of soil, enough for a full no-till cycle.

MoistureLock Liner

The same BPA-free waterproof liner used in the larger beds. Water moves downward, not out the sides, keeping soil biology active throughout the root zone.

4" Bottom Aeration Strip

Breathable fabric at the base handles drainage and air pruning while the liner above retains moisture. You get the benefits of both approaches in one container.

End Caps for Bug Prevention

When you're not running a trellis, the included PVC end caps seal the frame openings to prevent bugs, pests, and soil from entering the pipes.

Reusable Across Cycles

UV-resistant, machine washable fabric with marine-bonded construction. Growers report 3+ years of continuous use. Folds flat for storage when not in use.

How to set up the Hobby bed

Assemble the PVC frame

All PVC pipes and fittings are included. Push the pipes into the 3-way corner fittings to form the rectangular base. No cutting, no glue, no tools.

Slide the fabric over the frame

Drop the fabric bed over the assembled PVC. Position the bed on your drain tray inside the tent before adding soil.

Fill with living soil

Add your soil mix, leaving 3 to 5 inches of headroom for mulch. For transplants, dig a hole and fill the pocket with seed-starting mix rather than planting directly into the bed soil.

Cap or trellis

If you're not running a trellis, press the included end caps onto the vertical PVC to seal the openings. For trellis, extend PVC upward from the corners and add netting.

Yes. At 19" x 19" each, two beds placed side by side take up 38" x 19" of floor space. A standard 2x4 tent has roughly 24" x 48" of usable interior, so two beds fit with a few inches of clearance on each side for airflow and drain trays.
For most indoor grows, 28 gallons is plenty for a single plant in a living soil setup. Many growers run full no-till cycles in 15 to 30 gallon containers. The Hobby bed gives you the soil mass to sustain microbiology between runs while keeping the footprint compact enough for a small tent.
Two differences. First, the Hobby bed is the only size that comes with all PVC pipes included, so there's nothing to source or cut. Second, it's a purpose-built size (19" x 19") designed specifically to pair two beds in a 2x4 tent. The larger beds (3x3, 4x4, 4x8) ship as fabric plus fittings only, and you buy PVC locally.
Yes. The PVC frame gives you corner posts to work from. You can extend the verticals upward with additional PVC pipe and drape trellis netting across the top. The end caps are removable, so you can add vertical extensions any time.
Absolutely. Blumat carrots and Blusoak drip lines work well in these beds. The MoistureLock liner keeps water in the soil longer, which makes automated irrigation even more effective since there's less evaporation loss. A gravity reservoir positioned 2 feet above the bed is enough for a Blumat system.

Shipping
Check the order confirmation sent to your email or phone after checkout — it includes a tracking link. If you use the Shop App, you can track your order there too.
Most orders arrive in 3-5 business days. Expedited options (2-day, overnight) are available at checkout if you need it sooner.
Signature is only required on orders over $500. For added privacy, we can ship to your local UPS Store so you pick it up on your own schedule — just ask.
We default to UPS Ground or USPS Ground Advantage. Select an expedited option at checkout and we'll use the appropriate carrier for that service.
  • P.O. boxes: Yes, for small and lightweight items.
  • International: Canada only. Email help@happyhydro.com your address and a screenshot of your cart for a shipping quote.
  • APO/FPO: Not currently available.
For Canadian orders, import duties and taxes are the buyer's responsibility. You'll complete payment using your tracking number at UPS.com when your package arrives.
Title and risk of loss pass to you once we hand off to the carrier, but that doesn't mean we leave you hanging. Email help@happyhydro.com and we'll work overtime to track it down and make it right.

We accept credit/debit cards, PayPal, Coinbase, and Happy Hydro gift cards. Your card is charged immediately at checkout.
Double-check your billing address and card number. For larger purchases, your bank may have flagged it — a quick call to authorize the transaction usually sorts it out.

Returns & Cancellations
Email help@happyhydro.com within 30 days of delivery and we'll get you a refund or replacement, your choice. Items must be in original packaging with all parts in resalable condition. Multi-light orders, grow tents, orders over $500, and multi-box shipments may incur return shipping charges. AK, HI, and international buyers are responsible for return and warranty shipping. Some vendor-specific policies may apply — check the product page for details.
Refunds are processed through Shopify within 10 business days. Most customers see the credit back in about 5 days.
