Roots Organics LUSH is a heavily amended, peat-based potting soil with a 1-0.5-0.5 NPK ratio and 20+ organic amendments already mixed in. Most plants grow on it for up to eight weeks with nothing but water. After that, supplement with any organic bloom fertilizer and keep going. It ships in a 1.5 cu ft bag that doubles as a planter: cut off the top, punch drainage holes in the bottom, and transplant directly into it.

The built-in amendment package feeds most plants through veg and into early flower with nothing but water. After 8 weeks, top-dress or add liquid nutrients for the remainder of the cycle.

20+ organic amendments, factory-blended

Earthworm castings, bat guano, feather meal, fishbone meal, crab meal, kelp meal, blood meal, alfalfa meal, soybean meal, greensand, volcanic rock dust, langbeinite, and more. The full ingredient list is on the guaranteed analysis label.

Peat, coir, perlite, and pumice base

Four structural components create a balance of water retention and drainage. The perlite and pumice prevent compaction so roots stay oxygenated even in larger containers.

Beneficial microbes built in

Includes Bacillus subtilis (2M CFU/g), B. licheniformis, B. megaterium, and B. simplex (1M CFU/g each), plus three mycorrhizal fungi species including Rhizophagus intraradices at 0.4 propagules/g.

1.5% humic acids from leonardite

Humic acids improve nutrient availability and support microbial activity in the root zone. The leonardite source breaks down slowly, so benefits persist across the growing cycle.

Compost-free for consistency

Unlike many super soils, LUSH contains no composted forest material. This eliminates batch variation from compost quality and gives you the same performance every bag.

How to use LUSH

Fill your container

Place LUSH directly into a rigid pot or fabric container with drainage holes. You can also cut the top off the bag and plant right into it.

Dig a hole and transplant

Dig a pocket large enough for your root ball. For seeds, fill the pocket with a seed-starting mix rather than seeding directly into the hot soil.

Water in and let the soil work

Saturate with plain water or a light starter solution after transplanting. For the first 8 weeks, most plants need nothing else.

4

Supplement after week 8

Once the built-in nutrients taper off, top-dress with dry amendments or switch to a liquid organic feed. Increase watering frequency as the plant grows.

Frequently asked questions
LUSH is a hot soil, meaning it has a lot of nutrients loaded in. Direct-seeding into it can burn young seedlings. Start seeds in a mild seed-starting mix, then transplant into LUSH once the plant has a few sets of true leaves. If you're transplanting established clones or seedlings, they can go straight in.
Original is a lighter mix designed for frequent liquid feeding. It has less built-in nutrition and a higher air-to-water ratio for fast-draining, frequent-feed schedules. LUSH is the opposite: heavily amended for water-only growing, with enough nutrients to carry most plants for 8 weeks. Choose Original if you want full control over your feed schedule. Choose LUSH if you want the soil to do most of the work.
Fabric pots, yes. LUSH works well in fabric containers of any size. For AutoPot systems, it can work, but heavily amended soils can sometimes clog AquaValves over time. If you plan to use it in an AutoPot, consider adding extra perlite to improve drainage and keep an eye on valve flow. Any organic bloom amendment or liquid nutrient line works. Aurora Innovations makes the Roots Organics fertilizer line as a companion, but LUSH is compatible with whatever you prefer. Top-dressing with dry amendments like bat guano, kelp meal, or fish bone meal is another option. Start feeding when you notice the plant asking for more, usually lighter green new growth or slower development.
You can re-amend and reuse LUSH for a second cycle. Pull out the old root ball, add fresh dry amendments (worm castings, kelp meal, and a balanced organic fertilizer are a good starting point), mix it up, and let it sit for a week or two before replanting. The peat and perlite structure holds up well through at least one reuse.
Yes. Soil ships from our warehouse in Buffalo, NY, and orders going to western US states carry a $15 per order surcharge. This is a direct pass-through of the carrier cost, not a markup. Orders over $49 still qualify for free standard shipping on top of that surcharge.
If you receive a defective or damaged unit, email us a photo at help@happyhydro.com and we'll make it right immediately: replacement or refund, your call. For change-of-mind returns, we accept returns within 30 days for items in new, resalable condition. If you're not sure whether this product is right for your setup, call us first at 716-217-0353. Check the order confirmation sent to your email or phone after checkout — it includes a tracking link. If you use the Shop App, you can track your order there too.
Most orders arrive in 3-5 business days. Expedited options (2-day, overnight) are available at checkout if you need it sooner.
Signature is only required on orders over $500. For added privacy, we can ship to your local UPS Store so you pick it up on your own schedule — just ask.
We default to UPS Ground or USPS Ground Advantage. Select an expedited option at checkout and we'll use the appropriate carrier for that service.
  • P.O. boxes: Yes, for small and lightweight items.
  • International: Canada only. Email help@happyhydro.com your address and a screenshot of your cart for a shipping quote.
  • APO/FPO: Not currently available.
For Canadian orders, import duties and taxes are the buyer's responsibility. You'll complete payment using your tracking number at UPS.com when your package arrives.
Title and risk of loss pass to you once we hand off to the carrier, but that doesn't mean we leave you hanging. Email help@happyhydro.com and we'll work overtime to track it down and make it right.

Multi-light orders, grow tents, orders over $500, and multi-box shipments may incur return shipping charges. AK, HI, and international buyers are responsible for return and warranty shipping. Refunds are processed through Shopify within 10 business days. Most customers see the credit back in about 5 days.
