Description

Mites, thrips and powdery mildew from one bottle you mix yourself

Four botanical oils make up 30.50 percent of this concentrate: thyme at 15.50%, rosemary at 10.00%, clove at 3.00% and peppermint at 2.00%. Grower's Ally publishes two rates for it, 10 mL per gallon to prevent and 40 mL per gallon to knock something down, so one 8 fl oz bottle makes up to 25 gallons of preventative spray. The label is OMRI Listed, carries the FIFRA 25(b) minimum risk exemption, and states application up to the day of harvest with no re-entry interval.

Three products vs one concentrate

What changes when one label covers all three problems

A separate miticide, insecticide and fungicide Crop Defender 3 concentrate
Three labels, three mix rates and three bottles to keep track of on the shelf. One label covers powdery mildew, spider mites, russet mites, thrips, aphids and other soft bodied insects, including their eggs on contact.
Each product carries its own pre-harvest interval, and the longest one decides when you have to stop spraying. Grower's Ally states it can be applied up to the day of harvest, with no re-entry interval.
Ready-mixed bottles are priced per bottle, so the cost of a gallon of finished spray never comes down. 8 fl oz makes up to 25 gallons at the preventative rate and 32 fl oz makes up to 100 gallons.
One fixed strength in the bottle, whether you are preventing a problem or already chasing one. Two published rates: 0.25 percent at 10 mL per gallon to prevent, 1.0 percent at 40 mL per gallon to treat.
The actives are named and the rest of the bottle sits behind the phrase "other ingredients". All 69.50 percent is printed: glycerol monooleate, sorbitol, isopropyl myristate, butyl lactate and five fatty acids.
Labels commonly cap how many applications you get per season, which matters when a problem comes back. Grower's Ally states no limitation on the number of applications per growing cycle.

Before you order

Six things worth knowing about the concentrate specifically

Harvest same dayNo REI

It does not take the last weeks away from you

Problems tend to show up in flower, which is exactly when a pre-harvest interval hurts. Grower's Ally puts no days between the last spray and the cut.

30.50% actives

Four oils, printed to two decimal places

Thyme at 15.50%, rosemary at 10.00%, clove at 3.00% and peppermint at 2.00%, with the remaining 69.50% named on the label rather than hidden.

OMRI ListedFIFRA 25(b)

Organic status someone else checked

OMRI reviews the formula against the organic standard, so the claim does not rest on the manufacturer's own word.

Up to 25 gallons

The small bottle is a season of prevention

At the 10 mL per gallon preventative rate the 8 fl oz bottle makes up to 25 gallons of spray, and the quart makes up to 100.

No wetting agent

The surfactant is already in it

Grower's Ally says no wetting agent is needed, so what goes in the sprayer is concentrate and water and nothing else.

Contact spray

Coverage is the whole job

It works on contact, so anything the spray never touched survives. Leaf undersides are where they are, and where most people miss.

The other ingredients are glycerol monooleate, sorbitol, isopropyl myristate, butyl lactate, and lauric, myristic, palmitic, stearic and oleic acid. The safety data sheet describes the concentrate as a clear, particulate free liquid with a characteristic odor, a relative density of 0.913 g/mL and a flash point of 144.7°F, classified as a combustible liquid and a skin sensitizer, so keep it away from sparks and open flame and wear gloves when handling it undiluted. Four things are deliberately missing above, because Grower's Ally does not publish them: pH, water solubility, shelf life, and any coverage figure in square feet or plants per bottle. The 8 oz concentrate label, the 32 oz concentrate label and the concentrate safety data sheet are all on Grower's Ally's own site. Call 716-217-0353 if you need something confirmed before you order.

How it works

Four steps from the bottle to a treated canopy

1

Decide which rate you are mixing

10 mL per gallon if the plants look clean and you are spraying on a schedule. 40 mL per gallon if you can already see mites or mildew.

2

Shake first, then measure

Oils and water separate, so shake the concentrate before you draw any out and shake the sprayer again during use. Nothing else goes in.

3

Spray to runoff, undersides included

Cover leaves and stems until the liquid runs off. Outdoors spray early morning or evening and stay under 90°F; indoors keep lights and fans off for 2 to 3 hours.

4

Come back on schedule

Every 7 days to prevent, every 3 to 5 days while you are treating something. Grower's Ally sets no cap per growing cycle.

If this is not the right size or the right problem
Your situation What we would send instead
A couple of plants, and you would rather not measure anything Crop Defender 3 Ready-to-Use 24 oz at $19.95, the same formula already diluted with a sprayer fitted.
Spider mites and nothing else Spider Mite Control concentrate in 8 oz or 32 oz, or the Ready-to-Use 24 oz at $12.95.
Powdery mildew and nothing else Grower's Ally Fungicide concentrate at $13.95 for 8 oz, or the Ready-to-Use 24 oz at $12.95.
Buying tip: Grower's Ally publishes no coverage figure in square feet, so size it by how much spray you actually mix. From what we ship, a grower running a 4x4 mixes somewhere around two gallons a week, which is 20 mL at the preventative rate and works out to roughly three months on the 8 fl oz bottle and most of a year on the quart. Treating an active problem at 40 mL per gallon burns through it four times as fast. Call 716-217-0353 with your square footage and we will do that math with you.
FAQ

What growers ask before buying a botanical concentrate

Same brand and the same job, but not the same strength in the bottle. This page sells concentrate you dilute yourself. The 24 oz Ready-to-Use arrives already mixed with a trigger sprayer on it, which costs more per gallon of finished spray and is the easier buy if you only have a few plants to cover.

The low rate if the plants look clean and you are spraying on a weekly preventative schedule. The high rate if you can already see mites, russet mites, thrips, aphids or mildew on the leaves. Grower's Ally publishes nothing in between the two and no reason to go above the curative rate, so those are the only two numbers worth mixing to.

The label says it kills the listed pests and their eggs on contact, and the "on contact" part is doing the real work in that sentence. An egg the spray never reached is untouched. That is why the curative schedule repeats every few days instead of treating one pass as the end of it.

Grower's Ally reports no phytotoxicity and labels it for all stages of growth, but that is their testing on their crops, not on yours. Oil sprays plus hot bright light is the combination that causes trouble, which is why the label sets a temperature ceiling and asks for lights off after an indoor spray. Spray one leaf on your most sensitive plant, wait a day, then do the rest. It costs you 24 hours and it is the cheapest insurance there is.

No. Grower's Ally publishes this only as a foliar spray applied to leaves and stems. There are no drench rates, no root zone instructions and no reservoir dosing on either concentrate label or the safety data sheet, which means anyone quoting you a figure for that made it up. The pests on the label live on foliage anyway.

FIFRA section 25(b) is a category for minimum risk pesticides whose active and inert ingredients all sit on the EPA's permitted lists. Products in that category are exempt from registration by design, not unregistered by oversight. Sarasota Green Group states the exemption on the label itself, and OMRI reviewed the formula separately for organic production.
